Lighting by presence and daylight, retrofitted wirelessly

Lights in empty rooms or in bright daylight cost electricity. With a DALI lighting controller and wireless ceiling sensors, the lighting follows presence and brightness. Sensors and wireless switches are taught in directly to the controller – no gateway is needed for this, and no cable to the sensor either.

The principle

The lighting controller sits in the flush-mounted box or close to the luminaire and supplies the DALI ballasts with bus voltage. You teach in motion detectors, light sensors and EnOcean wireless switches directly to the controller. It switches according to presence, takes brightness into account and runs scenes and timer functions; the switches turn the light on and off and dim it.

Configuration is wireless with the free BL-PC-FLEX-2 software and an EnOcean USB stick: DALI addresses, groups, scene values, timers and the links to switches and sensors.

Flush-mountedBL-201-10-868 UP FLEX

Up to 17 DALI ballasts with integrated bus supply. Supports adjustable colour temperature with DALI DT8.

Larger groupsBL-204-10-868 EVG FLEX

Up to 15 ballasts without, up to 64 with an additional bus power supply. Also evaluates wired sensors.

LED with PWMBL-205-10-868 MINI FLEX

For drivers with PWM input instead of DALI, 12 V DC, with the same functions.

SensorsPIR Ceiling, PIR DOT, LUX

Motion on the ceiling (3 m radius at 2.5 m mounting height), motion and brightness in a small format, brightness from 1 to 60,000 lx.

Optional: central switching from the building automation

Data path

For the basic function, each controller works on its own. If states are to go into the building management system or commands are to be sent centrally, the VL-700 BASE gateway takes over: via the EnoDisc® it sends switching commands and brightness values to the controllers – for example for central off commands in the evening.

For controllers with Ethernet instead of radio, there is the AL-511-00 IP-DALI-BRIDGE, which connects a controller to DALI ballasts over the network.

What this means for your planning

5 points
  • One controller per room or lighting group: UP FLEX in the flush-mounted box for up to 17 ballasts, EVG FLEX for larger groups.
  • Plan ballasts with DALI, with DALI DT8 for adjustable colour temperature; LED drivers with PWM input via the MINI FLEX.
  • Arrange motion detectors according to their detection range (3 m radius at 2.5 m mounting height), and the light sensor where it captures the daylight in the room.
  • Specify follow-up time, brightness threshold and scenes per room; they are set during commissioning with BL-PC-FLEX-2.
  • Only plan a gateway if states are to go into the building management system or switching is done centrally.

Frequently asked questions

4 questions

Does the lighting controller need a gateway?

No. Motion detectors, light sensors and wireless switches are taught in directly to the controller. A gateway is only added if the building management system is to read along or switch centrally.

Can I keep using my existing luminaires?

Yes, if they have DALI ballasts. LED drivers with PWM input are controlled by the MINI FLEX. Otherwise the ballasts are replaced.

How is the controller configured?

Wirelessly with the free BL-PC-FLEX-2 software and an EnOcean USB stick: addresses, groups, scenes, timers and the assignment of the sensors.

Can the colour temperature also be controlled?

Yes, with the UP FLEX and ballasts according to DALI DT8: one rocker of a double switch sets warmer or cooler, the other switches and dims.

Shall we plan your lighting?

Tell us the rooms, the number of luminaires and the existing ballasts. You will receive a proposal for controllers and sensors, a list with order numbers and a quote.
