Description
The new EnoSense® PIR DOT is our most cost-effective sensor for detecting movement and measuring brightness.
It has both a motion sensor (PIR) and a brightness sensor.
We have optimized the wireless sensor in terms of cost and required functionality, making it an efficient foundation for your building automation and space utilization analysis.
As there is usually little daylight in a meeting room and only artificial light when the room is in use, we opted for pure battery operation in this case.
When a person is detected, the EnoSense® PIR DOT sends a "motion detected" signal immediately and then every 4 minutes.
Like all new EnoSense® sensors, it comes in a very small and stylish design housing and, at 41 x 27 mm, fits unobtrusively on the ceiling.
The EnoSense® PIR DOT provides the following measured values with each telegram:
Detection angle: approx. 100° Detection range: approx. 3 m radius at a mounting height of 2.5 m

Occupancy sensor or motion sensor?
What a PIR detectsA PIR sensor does not measure presence but motion: it responds when a heat source moves within its detection area. The market calls PIR sensors that also detect small movements, for example at a desk, “occupancy” or “presence” sensors. Presence is inferred from motion being reported again within a hold time.
If someone sits very still for a long time, the room may be considered vacant once the hold time has expired. Plan the hold time to be longer than the sensor’s transmission interval, and position the sensor so that the work area is well covered.
Where presence needs to be detected even without motion, for example for occupancy analytics, the EnoSense® Presence Count detects people with a time-of-flight and thermal sensor, without a camera.
